High School Election Judge Opportunity with Cook County
The Cook County Clerk's Office is looking for high school juniors and seniors to be election judges in the March 2026 Primary Election. 

To qualify as a student judge, you must:
  • Be a high school senior or junior
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Able to speak, read, and write English fluently
  • Successfully complete an election judge training course conducted by the Clerk's office
  • Have written consent from your principal and a parent or legal guardian 
  • Reside in Cook County
 
Hours:
Election judges must arrive at the polling place by 5 a.m. and stay until after the polls close at 7 p.m. and the precinct votes are counted and transmitted.

Training:
All new election judges must attend a hands-on training session conducted by the Clerk's office. Election Judges will receive an election-day assignment only if they complete all their required training. Training sessions are held at convenient locations throughout the county.

Compensation:
Election judges receive $250 for their work. This compensation is paid to students who attend training, pass the test, and work on Election Day. All three conditions must be met. Payment is processed and distributed 3-5 weeks after the election.

EMERGE
Free five-day training course for those who wish to become Energy Efficiency Technicians with a certification by the nationally-recognized Building Performance Institute. Earnings start at $20-25 in this growing field, and job placement has been solidified for those successfully completing the program.
 
EMERGE will run four cohorts this year, and one next year at the Local Iron Workers Union in Broadview.  (Participants do not need to join the Union; it is simply the location of the training.)  There are only 10 slots available per cohort so I would encourage interested students to apply promptly. The attached flyer has a QR code that links directly to the EMERGE application.
