Local Scholarships 

Applications will be made available in early February 2024. 
 
Deadline for most applications will be March 15, 2024, although some may be different.   
 
PLEASE COMPLETE THE TRANSCRIPT RELEASE FORM FOR ANY SCHOLARSHIP NEEDING A TRANSCRIPT OR GRADE VERIFICATION. 
 

AARON SEMENSKE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Aaron Semenske Scholarship Foundation will award a renewable $3000 academic scholarship to one senior student/athlete.  The scholarship will be considered on the basis of academic achievement, athletic participation, involvement in the community and/or religious groups, and demonstrated leadership in the community.  Applicants must be in the upper quarter of the graduating class, give evidence of leadership activities, give evidence of demonstrated community service and must be accepted at a 4-year college or university.  Recommendations from a faculty member, a varsity coach, and a religious or community leader are also required. 

AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP
The American Legion Association of Brookfield has established a scholarship fund to grant at least one RB senior with a scholarship award.  The award will range $500 to $1,500; amounts may vary.  In addition to a paper application, students must write a short essay on service.  
BEST BUDDIES SCHOLARSHIP
Two $500 awards will go to seniors planning to pursue college studies in Special Education or in the area of disability rights. Consideration will also be given to any student who has served on the Executive Board for Best Buddies. The applicant's character, involvement with students with intellectual disabilities, career goals, personal essay, and recommendations from a staff person or community member will serve as criteria for the award.

BLOOD DRIVE SCHOLARSHIP

Candidates must have assisted in the planning of the Blood Drives at RBHS or donated blood.  The candidates must submit a short essay which includes a personal statement explaining why donating blood is important and how this experience will impact their future.  The application must also include two letters of recommendation from RB teachers or staff members. 

BROOKfield chamber of commerce scholarship

This $1250 scholarship is awarded to one RBHS senior. Students must have a 3.0, participate in extracurricular activities and be involved in the community. Deadline is March 1st. 

THE EDWIN R. FREDERICKSEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND 
F/B/O RIVERSIDE BROOKFIELD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (April 1st deadline)

This scholarship is for the education and training of graduating RB students who will be attending a technical college or a trade school.  It is also available to students attending a 4-year college and plan to major in the engineering field. The scholarship is possible thanks to the very generous donation made by the late Edwin R. Frederickson and will be administered by the Fifth Third Bank.  The scholarship is based on, in order of importance; need, scholastic attainment, scholastic potential and community service.  This scholarship requires you to upload a transcript. FRANCIS HESS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND (April 1st Deadline)

Criteria: High School Senior, Graduating from a high school in the greater Chicago area and attending a four-year, nonprofit college or university. Selection will be based upon: Need, Scholastic attainment, Scholastic potential and Community service. JAMES A. SWANSON SCHOLARSHIP

The James A. Swanson Math Scholarship will be given to at least two graduating seniors planning to further their studies in math-related majors.  Awards vary from year to year.
JOHN PASSARELLA SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP 
The John Passarella Spirit Scholarship recognizes one graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities during his or her four-year RBHS career. The college-bound student should have demonstrated and achieved positive change within RB High School and the feeder communities. In the spirit of John Passarella, the 4-year senior should possess at the highest level elements of the following 6 character traits:
S – Self-Motivated
P – Passion
I – Involved in Community
R – Respectful
I – Inspiration to Others
T – True Love for Life and Deep Appreciation for Being a Bulldog
 
There is no formal application for this scholarship. Students are chosen by a committee of RBHS staff.
JULIE MORLEY CULINARY ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
The Julie Morley Culinary Arts Scholarship is an award based upon the annual revenues of an endowment established in the memory of Julie Morley, former Culinary Arts teacher, FHA/HERO Sponsor, and department chairwoman of the Applied Arts Department.  This scholarship is intended to assist students who have exhibited outstanding aptitude and creativity in one or more of the Applied Arts.  First consideration will be given to applicants who are choosing the culinary arts for their future educational and/or professional studies.  Applicants should have taken at least one culinary arts class at RB or have been an active/competitive member of FCCLA for a minimum of two years.  Secondary consideration will be given to applicants who are pursuing a career in other areas of the Applied Arts.

KRISTEN FUERST AWARD

This award is a memorial to Kristen Fuerst, an RBHS student and varsity tennis player who died in a train accident in 1989. This monetary scholarship is awarded to a senior female tennis player for postsecondary training at a two or four year college or university or a trade school who makes a solid contribution to the team with good teamwork qualities, integrity, and a solid work ethic. The winning candidate is determined by the head coach at RBHS. 

KATHI PARISI STARTS WITH ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

MAYOR’S YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – NORTH RIVERSIDe

This scholarship is available to US citizens and North Riverside residents who are under the age of 25. The following must be submitted to the North Riverside Village Hall: completed application, copy of driver’s license or state identification card, minimum of two letters of recommendation, and a short essay. Applications can be picked up at the Village of North Riverside and are due by May 1st. 

 

OTTO HAACK AWARD

A monetary award will go to a RB senior planning to study in the area of industrial technology.  Academic record, career goals, and involvement in the field of study will be considered.  The recipient will be chosen by the Applied Arts Department. There is no application. 

RENEE PETIT FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

The Renee Petit Fine Arts Scholarship is intended to assist students who have exhibited outstanding aptitude and creativity in one or more of the fine arts to pursue their educational and or professional studies.  The candidate must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 in all fine arts related high school course work and a minimum overall GPA of 2.0.  A short essay, a letter of recommendation, and a performance based product which showcases the candidate's talents and achievements in at least one of the fine arts are required.  

RIVERSIDE BANK SCHOLARSHIP

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to one graduating senior from RBHS.  The recipient will be selected on the basis of positive leadership and character as exhibited by academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and involvement in the community.  Applicants must have maintained a “B” average or better and plan to enroll full-time at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or trade/vocational school.  They must also show financial need. Applicants must submit a completed application and media permission slip to Student Services. 

RIVERSIDE BROOKFIELD EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

(RBEA) ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP GRANT

The RBEA has established academic scholarship grants of at least $500 to be awarded to graduating seniors.  This year's scholarships will be considered on the basis of academic achievement, and involvement in the school and community.  Candidates must rank in the upper 20% of the senior class at the end of seventh semester.  Finalists may be asked to participate in an interview with the RBEA Scholarship Committee Members. 

RIVERSIDE MASONIC LODGE SCHOLARSHIP

The Riverside Masonic Scholarship is a one-time $1000 scholarship which is awarded to a graduating senior at RBHS.  Applicants must be in the upper 25% of the class.  Academic and extra-curricular activities will be considered.
RIVERSIDE JUNIOR WOMEN'S CHARITY SCHOLARSHIP
This $1500 scholarship is given to recognize a female Riverside student with outstanding community service and strong leadership qualities. The recipient must have at least a 3.0 GPA, have demonstrated leadership qualities by serving in a leadership or coordinating capacity for one or more community service projects, and plans to attend college next fall. ROBERT HEGNER MEMORIAL AWARD
This award is a memorial to Robert Hegner for his dedication to student tennis players throughout his 52 years of coaching high school tennis. Although Bob began his teaching and coaching career at Morton High School in Berwyn, in retirement he spent his final 16 years coaching the RB girls’ tennis team and running RB co-ed summer tennis camps. In his honor, his family wishes to award this monetary scholarship to a senior female tennis player for postsecondary training at a two-or four-year college or university or a vocational school and who has made a significant contribution to the team, demonstrating qualities of teamwork, integrity, and a solid work ethic. The winning candidate is determined by the head coach at RBHS.

SENIOR BULLDOG SCHOLARSHIP

This $500 scholarship is awarded to 2 male and 2 female seniors who have earned a varsity letter in at least one sport. Leadership in the classroom, community and athletics, as well as academic achievement, will be considered. Deadline is March 15, 2024.  

TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION OF BROOKFIELD STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
This $500 scholarship is given to recognize one senior who attended Brook Park Elementary School and/or S.E. Gross Middle School.  The applicant must complete a short application and answer an essay question. Apply here: https://forms.gle/8N1P7j7uKXNcoCCj9

VINCENT GRIGOLETTI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Vincent Grigoletti, class of 2018, passed away after fighting medulloblastoma for 9 years. He is remembered as a hero for his fight to be at school learning with his friends. Vince never complained, never showed self-pity. He always worked hard and had a smile for those around him, teaching us all to be better people and to appreciate our lives.

Applicants must submit a statement explaining a personal hardship they overcame and what they learned from it. Academic success and financial need may be considered for this $1000 scholarship. 

WEST SUBURBAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIP
Students applying for this $1000 scholarship must meet the following criteria: graduating senior who is the son/daughter or current employee of any Chamber member business (in good standing as of the date of the application), must attend LTHS, RBHS or Nazareth Academy and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. DEADLINE IS 2/23/24 by 4:00pm.

WISE MEN PRAIRIE TRAIL SERVICE AWARD

This $1250 award is given annually to one senior at RBHS.  The purpose of this award is to recognize a student committed to community service. This is not an academic achievement award nor is it a scholarship. Interviews will be held.
