French Cultural Video Exchange with La Réunion (a small island near Madagascar)!
French 3 and French 4/AP students are taking their language learning global! They’ve just launched a cultural video exchange with students from a high school on La Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean.

So far, two rounds of videos have been shared — one introducing themselves and another showing daily life at RB/la Réunion. Our students film in French, while their partners in La Réunion practice their English, creating a real-world exchange that goes beyond the classroom.

Through this project, students are discovering how people their age live on the other side of the world, and how language and culture are connected. They’re learning that “French culture” isn’t just Paris — it’s also vibrant regions like La Réunion, where French, Creole, African, and Asian influences blend in unique ways.

Want to learn more or see some of the videos? Stop by Room 204 — our student ambassadors would love to tell you all about it!

French students want to thank Mrs. Geraghty, who started this kind of exchange last year with her Spanish AP class for inspiring this global connection! This year, her AP Spanish Language students have been exchanging with a school in Valencia, Spain.

French Art Comes to Life! 🎨✨
Over the course of two inspiring days, our French students transformed the classroom into a galerie d’art française! Students presented présentations fantastiques in beautiful French, showcasing their deep understanding of the artists they studied and their creative insight into the painting process.

This event was a true collaboration artistique — our French 4 Honors and AP French students guided and mentored their peers, helping them refine their pronunciation, perfect their scripts, and build the confidence to present with style and poise. The result was nothing short of magnifique! 🌟

Families and friends joined in to celebrate, enjoying a delightful spread of madeleines, palmiers, fraises, baguettes, and brie — all generously provided by our wonderful parents. Un grand merci for your support and enthusiasm, which made the experience even more special. 🥐🧀🍓

Events like this remind us how far our students have come — not only in their mastery of the French language, but also in their cultural appreciation and confidence. We can’t wait to see how they continue to grow jusqu’à leur année de terminale (all the way to senior year)!

Merci encore et vive le français !

French Alumni Connections:
On August 25, 2025, Ben Harrison (Class of 2020) visited French 4/AP to share—in French—his semester abroad experiences and answer questions as he prepares to return to France from September to April to work as an English teaching assistant in Beauvais. Merci, Ben, and best of luck! 🌍🇫🇷
Next week, French 3 and French 4/AP will Zoom with Rémy Doornebos (Class of 2016), who lives and works in Paris. Many students met him during our Seine River cruise in June, and now they’ll get to hear more about his life abroad.

These visits remind us why it’s so important to take world language learning seriously—because life is full of adventures, and knowing another language opens doors to experiences, friendships, and opportunities all over the world.
French Club's 1st 2024-2025 meeting allowed members to enjoy perfect weather to learn or perfect their knowledge of Pétanque on September 3rd. Our new officers, Chloe Staszak, Addriza Risha, and Sebbie Giblin, will lead the French club’s activities this year and promise to do a great job. 👏

French Club met on September 15th, 2020 to play an annual game of Pétanque. The masks and gloves did not prevent members from making great progress in their mastery of the game. The heat and sun all contributed to make us believe we were in Nice, France!

On December 6th, 2018,

French club members celebrated St Nicolas. They made paper shoes and put them outside the classroom hoping St Nicolas would come drop candy in the shoes of the students who had been good! Somehow, Saint Nicolas traveled to Chicago to celebrate this tradition and honored the students’ wishes. Students also shared a copious potluck dinner! Merci St Nicolas ! Joyeux Noël et bonne année 2019.

French students also said goodbye to Melle Talavera who student taught French 1, 2, and 3 during 1st semester. We will all miss her and wish her a fantastic French teacher career!
