Riverside Brookfield High School is pleased to announce the newest member of its team, Harley, a golden retriever serving as the school’s full-time facility dog. Harley will provide comfort, social-emotional support, and a positive presence for students and staff throughout the school year.
While Harley has visited RBHS on occasion in the past, this school year marks his official start as a full-time member of the school community. Harley will be a regular presence during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, and other school activities. He will also assist in de-escalating stressful situations and help promote a welcoming and supportive environment for all students.
“Having our own facility dog on campus to provide ongoing comfort and social-emotional support has been an important project, not just for the administration, but also for the Board of Education,” said Dr. Kevin Skinkis, RBHS Superintendent. “The staff is excited to have Harley here, and we look forward to a successful 2025-2026 school year with our newest team member.”
Harley comes to RBHS through a partnership with Canines 4 Comfort, a Gurnee-based nonprofit organization that trains facility and therapy dogs for schools and community organizations. Unlike service dogs, which are assigned to a single individual, facility dogs like Harley work with many people in a shared environment.
Special thank you to Mr. Dave Mannon for helping to bring Harley to RB and serving as his primary handler.
RBHS is so excited to welcome Harley to the Bulldog family. Be sure to say hello when you see him on campus!
