Girl Up is sponsoring our Women’s History Spirit Week starting on Monday when we are asking faculty and students to wear white on Monday in recognition of the Women’s suffrage movement.

This movement in the U.S. was a decades-long fight to win the right to vote for women. It took activists and reformers nearly 100 years to win, but on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was finally ratified, enfranchising all American women and declaring for the first time that they, like men, deserve all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Wearing suffragette white is a powerful and highly symbolic gesture that reminds us just how long women have been fighting.

On Monday, we ask that you wear white to honor those who have paved the way for women’s rights.
