Freshman Orientation

On Wednesday, August 12, the Student Association welcomed the Class of 2024 to RBHS! We had small groups rotate through 4 sessions, the main purpose was to assist the freshman class with their comfort level at RB and help them prepare for the start of the school year. The sessions included a Welcome Video & Virtual Tour of RB, followed by an actual brief tour of some key areas in the building, a presentation from the Administration and a Q & A with Student Association leaders.
And include the attached photos.
In January SA showed their appreciation for the Custodians by decorating their doorway and writing Notes of Acknowledgement for each Custodian. We also treated them to some special dessets and candy treat bags! We held our 2nd of two Blood Drives in FEBRUARY and helped donate 88 pints of Blood. March was cut short due to Coronavirus, but we still managed to run another EXCITING Pep Rally! Our annual April Pop Tops Collection has been postponed to next school year. Please contact one of the Sponsors if you are interested in becoming a class officer or executive board member for 2020-2021.
As 2019 comes to a close we look back at the SA accomplishments. At the beginning of November we hosted a blood drive, collecting 90 pints of blood, which can help save 270 lives. Then Student Association gathered and donated 27 full Thanksgiving meals to Community Support Services in Brookfield, a community center for adults with intellectual disabilities and their families. In addition, classes had the chance to get a wish list from a resident at CSS in Brookfield and purchase a Christmas gift. Our classes, clubs and staff went above and beyond and the gifts were incredible! Thank you all so much for your support! The holiday season will be a little more enjoyable for those at CSS this year. The Coat and Blanket drive was also truly incredible. There is no way we could thank everyone enough! We collected over 300 items. A special thank you to Ms. Mynaugh's classes for their overwhelming donations and to the Music Department for collecting items during the winter concerts. The items were donated to Christ Church of Oak Brook for their Coat, Blanket and food Drive.

Homecoming 2019 RB Takes on Hollywood!

The Spirit week had fun-spirited theme days including Breakfast Club (Comfy) Day, Decades Day, Jersey (Space Jam, The Blind Side or Miracle Season) Day, Walk the Red Carpet Day and Crazy Blue & White Day! Penny pinch collected over $950 for one of our very own Bulldogs who has ME (better known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and students played the Games made by the Girls that Code in the cafe all week to earn spirit points. The Pep Rally had many competitive and exciting games including a round of Ships & Sailors and the traditional Dodgeball challenge - the Tuesday night Tournament winning Sophomore Team Rip Schmo verses the Staff Team. And finally the following students were on the Homecoming Court: Selena Axinte, Mazzy Marcucci, Nadia Ranieri, Charms Soto, Rahim Kouferidji, Marc Lagler, Ricardo Linares, Ryan Power and the Queen Cassandra Hines and King Ryan Gaynor.

We will deliver these cards before Thanksgiving to the USO, who will disperse them in a variety of ways. And we just mailed 200 lbs of candy, toothbrushes, toothpastes, floss and chapstick to an RB Alum stationed in Afghanistan. We hope the care package will brighten the spirits of his platoon.

 New Moms

Beginning February 14th, SA began collecting gently used girls clothing, as well as baby formula, diapers, and baby food, for the New Moms organization in Oak Park and Chicago. New Moms helps give women ages 18-24 who have young children a place to stay and provides them with basic necessities for motherhood, and offers them an opportunity to finish their high school education if they did not have the chance to do so. Thank you everyone for the donations! We hope to continue this next year.
Custodian Appreciation Day

On January 25th we held our annual Custodian Appreciation Day. We hosted lunch and dinner for the daytime and nighttime staff, consisting of 22 members. We are so glad that we get to say thank you, always appreciating the incredible work done by our custodial staff!
Coat & Blanket Drive

This year's Coat and Blanket drive was truly incredible. There is no way we could thank everyone enough! We collected 221 items, breaking down to 189 coats, 101 hats, 79 scarves, 80 gloves, and 72 blankets. A special thank you to Ms. Mynaugh and Mr. Frey's classes for their overwhelming donations. The items were donated to Christ Church of Oak Brook for their own Coat and Blanket Drive.
Santa Anonymous

From November to mid December, classes had the chance to get a wish list from a resident at CSS in Brookfield and purchase them a Christmas gift. This year, our classes went above and beyond and the gifts were incredible! Thank you all so much for your support! The holiday season will be a little more enjoyable for those at CSS this year.
Thanksgiving Baskets

During the month of November, Student Association works to donate full Thanksgiving meals to Community Support Services in Brookfield, a community center for adults with intellectual disabilities and their families. This year, we were only expecting 18 baskets full of food, but the students and staff completely overshot our estimations. Thanks to the overwhelming donations from the wonderful community at RB, we were able to create a record breaking 30 meals for the families at CSS, and we cannot thank you enough!
Blood Drive 2017
The Blood Drive was Wednesday, November 1st, and it was a huge success! We had a record breaking season, with over 127 pints donated, which helps over 374 people! We are looking forward to our next drive on Wednesday, February 28th.
Homecoming 2017

The theme was Welcome to the Jungle!

The Homecoming Spirit Week kicked off with the Dodgeball Tournament and ended with the Dance. There was a lot of school spirit during the week, shown by students participating in the themed dress-up days, and also numerous attended the many sporting events that week, including the Boys Soccer Game, Girls Tennis Match, Volleyball Game and the Football Game. Over $930 was raised during lunches from Penny Pinch and the games the Girls That Code created. All of the money is going to help high school students in Houston, Texas. It was a fun and exciting competition amongst the 4 grades, and the Spirit Bone was won by the Seniors.

UPDATE: POP TOPS FOR PATIENTS

April 22 closed off our Pop Tops for Patients contest, which was one of our most successful contests yet! In total, we collected 80.1 pounds, which amounts to 101,461 pop tops! We would like to thanks everyone who contributed and congratulate out top three classes!
1st- Mrs. Zimmerman's 5th Hour
2nd- Mrs. Gordon's 5th Hour
3rd- Mrs. Hayes's 5th Hour

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE

Following our pop top contest, we decided that we wanted to do a little more for the Ronald McDonald House at Loyola Hospital. On May 6, a big group of kids from the student association went to the Ronald McDonald House after school to make the families of the house dinner. There we made chicken enchiladas, macaroni and cheese, butter noodles, fruit skewers, chips&salsa&guacamole, a veggie platter, crescent rolls, and cookies for the people living in the house. Many of our volunteers also got a tour of the house to see what it was all about. We had a TON of fun and hope to continue this tradition in the future. Thank you to all of our volunteers for making this possible!

POP TOPS FOR PATIENTS

April 4 kicks of our annual pop tops for patients contest! This contest is between 5th hour classes to see which class can collect the most pop tops. The classes with the most pop tops (measured based on the amount of pounds turned in) will be awarded with some type of prize. Help us to try and reach our school-wide goal of 2,000,000 pop tops collected. The contest will end on April 22. All pop tops are donated to the Ronald McDonald House, which offers convenient, affordable, temporary housing for families of seriously ill or injured children. We also plan on delivering homemade blankets and items of the the Ronald McDonald wishlist to the house within the next month.

TURNABOUT

With three weeks notice, the Student Association managed to plan a Turnabout dance! This dance took place on Saturday, March 19th from 7-10 PM. The theme was "Fun in the Sun," so the decorations consisted of green, yellow, and blue colors, flowers, and a HUGE mural depicting a beach. For having such a short amount of time to plan, the Student Association managed to pull of a successful dance, which hundreds of students attended. Thank you to anyone who helped make this dance happen.

BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE:

Our second blood drive of the year has come and gone, and what a success it was! In total, RB collected 122 pints of blood, just one pint short of our school record. That means this was our second largest collection ever! Each pint of blood saves three lives in the Chicagoland area, which is currently experiencing a blood shortage, so it was great to see the RB community give to the people around us. We would like to thank all of the student's who donated and helped to run the blood drive. We hope that next year we can top this number and create a new school record.

BLOOD DRIVE

The next event we are planning is our annual blood drive! This year, our spring blood drive will be taking place on Wednesday, February 24. To participate in the blood drive, you must be 16 years of age or older with parental consent (unless you are 18). We would greatly appreciate everyone's participation! S.A. always works with Lifesource, which works to donate the blood to people in the Chicagoland area. This is just one more way S.A. gives back to our community.

If you wish to donate blood with Lifesource, use the code #313 to help add to RB's grand total.

CUSTODIAN APPRECIATION DAY

For the third year, we decided to celebrate our hard-working custodial staff with custodian appreciation day! On this day, we make sure our custodian knows how much they mean to us and how RB would not be the place it was without them by providing them a lunch or dinner, desserts, decorations, and a huge poster. We do this because we think the custodians need a day to be celebrated, because they truly are one of a kind. Thank you to anyone who helped out with this event, but most of all, THANK YOU CUSTODIANS!

WINTER PROJECTS

With a successful blood drive behind us, we are finally read to move on to our winter projects: Thanksgiving Baskets, Santa Anonymous, and the Coat and Blanket Drive. Thanksgiving baskets works with CSS in Brookfield to help families in our community that might not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal. Clubs, classes, and teams are all invited to collect non-perishable goods to include in the baskets (such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, cornbread, etc.) and collect monetary donations to go towards gifts cards to buy the family a turkey. All of the baskets are due on Monday, November 16th and will be delivered soon after. Santa Anonymous is also run through CSS in Brookfield. The goal of Santa Anonymous is to collect money to buy people, typically adults with intellectual disabilities, Christmas gifts in spirit of the holiday. This fundraiser is also open to all school clubs, teams, and classes, but monetary donations for this event will also be collected at the RB Basketball programs's "Turkey Tourney" the week of November 23-November 28. The final winter project we run is the Coat and Blanket Drive. Boxes are placed around the school and community to try to collect as many coats, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, etc. to donate to the Salvation Army to give to those people who do not have the money to afford this type of winter apparel. Boxes will also be put out at the "Turkey Tourney" to collect these items so we highly encourage you to donate any extra clothes that you do not use or need! We are looking forward to having three extremely successful fundraisers!

Both of our winter projects ended very successfully. The Santa Anonymous project was able to buy gifts for 30+ adults and in fact, raised enough money to buy fleece to make blankets for the Ronald McDonald House. We collect over 200 articles of winter clothing (coats, blankets, hats, gloves, etc.) to donate to the Salvation Army. And for Thanksgiving baskets, we were able to put together 25 thanksgiving meals for  families in need. Thank you to anyone who participated in these events! We couldn't have done it without you.

BLOOD DRIVE

The next event we are planning is our annual blood drive! This year, our fall blood drive will be taking place on Wednesday, October 28. Our next blood drive will be in February.

HOMECOMING 2015

Student Association just finished one of their biggest projects of the year, Homecoming. After months of planning the pep rally, painting murals, getting spirit week organized, and decorating for the dance, we finally pulled it off. With the help of National Honor Society, we ended up raising $600 for the family of our honorary bulldog, Chris Ellis, who is suffering from cancer. The winner of the spirit contest was the senior class, who had almost 5,000 more spirit points than the class in second place. We would like to thank everyone who helped out make homecoming the huge success it was!

Chris Ellis is a Bulldog!

Chris Ellis is a 5 year-old boy who will be going to Brook Park Elementary School next year. Chris was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, and is undergoing chemotherapy in the upcoming months. Student Association worked in cooperation with the administration and the bookstore here at RB to make Chris Ellis a Bulldog for the day. He got an ID, a gift bag, and a ton of support from all of the students at RB throughout the time he was here. Thank you to all who made Chris' time here a little better.

If you want to learn the most updated details about Chris' treatment, visit their Facebook page: Fight 4 Chris.

Custodian Appreciation Day

We had another very successful Custodian Appreciation Day this year. Student Association cannot thank our custodial staff enough, and this is a great way to appreciate them. We had a lunch and dinner for all of our custodians. Thank you to all who made this awesome event possible.

Thanksgiving Baskets

Thank you to all of the people who helped with S.A.'s Thanksgiving Basket charity. We donated a total of 26 baskets of food full of the Thanksgiving meal essentials and 4 other baskets of non-Thanksgiving related items to the Salvation Army. We also received a large monetary donation, which went towards not only Thanksgiving Baskets, but also Santa Anonymous and the Coat and Blanket Drive.

A huge thank you goes out to all of those who participated or volunteered their time.

Pop Tops, Pop Tops, Pop Tops!

- Last year we reached our goal of 1,000,000 pop tops! It took us 10 years of collecting, but with our pop top competition in April, we were able to reach our long-standing goal.

Last year's contest was so successful, we are doing it again this April!  April 7-24, we are holding another Pop Tops for Patients contest! The 5th hour class that donates the most pop tops, wins a pizza party for their class. Get ready to donate those pop tops, and maybe in another 10 years, we will reach our goal of 2,000,000!

We recently donated $400 worth of supplies and gift cards to the Ronald McDonald house. The students who went got a tour of the house and really brought back the understanding of why supporting the Ronald McDonald house is so important. If you want to learn more about the Ronald McDonald house, visit http://www.rmhc.org/
Hey Bulldogs -
Make sure to wear your blue and white, or RB apparel, every Friday of the week!  Spirit Fridays will be randomly selected, and SA members will visit 5th hour classes and reward those showing school spirit.  Winning 5th hour classes will be entered in a raffle to win a pizza party!
Cards for the Troops

Following the Veteran's Day celebration on November 10th, Student Association helped organize Cards for the Troops. Students and staff wrote over 300 cards to be delivered to the USO of Illinois. The cards will be sent to troops in America as well as overseas for the holiday season.
