Dear Senior Students and Families,
We wanted to pass along an important update regarding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Please note that the federal government will not begin processing completed FAFSA applications until the middle of March. During this waiting period, students will not receive their FAFSA Submission Summary (previously called Student Aid Report), which outlines their federal grant and loan eligibility, and Student Aid Index (previously Expected Family Contribution).
Without this information, colleges are not able to offer their financial aid packages. Schools will do their best to provide quick turnaround times, but the timing of the May 1st commitment date will be tight. Some colleges have already extended the May 1st commitment date to provide more time to make an informed decision. Always check with the school directly to confirm dates and timelines.
No senior should commit to any college or university without being 100% clear on the cost of attendance for all of their options. If you need assistance, please reach out to your School Counselor.
A completed FAFSA is a graduation requirement and a means of receiving federal and state grants from the government and financial aid from colleges and universities.
