There are no membership requirements - the activity is open to students of all grade levels, and with all academic interests.

2018/2019 Season:
Scholastic Bowl had a great season, with Varsity scoring the 3rd highest total for game points in our conference. We had 5 All-Conference players: Lindsey DeJesus, Ben Harrison, AJ Morrissey, Nicholas Sacharski, and Ben Schmitt. We also beat Lyons Township in the first round in our Regional competition, but ultimately lost to Glenbard West. It was a fun season and Scholastic Bowl did an exceptional job competing.

2017/2018 Season:

Congratulations to all the Scholastic Bowl players on their performance at our Conference Tournament on December 9th. Our varsity team won their first 2 games and lost the 3rd game by only a small margin. Our JV team placed 2nd in their conference and they went into the last question of the championship game tied with the opposing team. It was a close game and they did very well.

Mr. Gibbons and the RBHS community were very proud of Scholastic Bowl after their outstanding performance at the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament at the end of May 2015.  Despite playing very difficult competitors (the best teams in the country), the varsity team finished with a record of 5 wins and 5 losses, finishing 151st in the nation.  Only the top 15% of teams in each qualifying conference, plus top finishers at State Qualifiers are invited to compete in this event.  Our record was the same as the 105th place team, but all teams with identical records are then ranked by other factors, including total points scored and tossups heard.  The team scored 2110 points total, and was asked 213 tossup questions.  We buzzed in before our opponents (with the correct answer) 87 times total.  Our strongest player was Chris Olszewski, with 56 correct answers - he finished 65th in the Tournament when ranked individually - there were nearly 1400 players in the competition!  Other players contributing to our wins were Nick Jepson, Monika Janas (these three players have now graduated) plus incoming seniors Alec Frank, Marly Santora, Hannah Ranft, and incoming junior Cynthia Smith.  The teams we defeated were West Salem (from Wisconsin), Terry Sanford A (from North Carolina), DeLaSalle A (from Minnesota), LAMP (from Alabama), and Hoover B.  See the website below for more details!

Masonic Regional

Congratulations to the RB Varsity Scholastic Bowl team for their performance at the Masonic Regional this weekend. The team finished in 4th place in an extremely competitive field, and was awarded a plaque and medals, as well as a small monetary prize of $100. The team consisted of co-captains Alec Frank and Marly Santora, with team members Henry Scheffer, Remy Doornebos, Emma Strand, and Erik Robertson. We look forward to our final competition in two weeks' time.

2015 NAQT High School National Championship Invitation

Robert Hentzel of the National Academic Quiz Tournament wrote to me "to congratulate [our] quiz bowl team on having qualified for the 2015 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT). The championship will be held on the weekend of May 30 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare hotel in Chicago." This qualification was for our Varsity team.

Also, please note that the Varsity team finished the regular season with a record of 14 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. On Saturday, two students (Chris Olszewski and Alec Frank) received medals for finishing in the Top Ten in Conference for number of tossups correctly answered during the regular conference season. Lastly, two members of the Frosh-Soph team (Henry Scheffer and Cynthia Smith) also finished in the Top Ten in Conference in the same category (but for the Frosh-Soph division).
