RBHS Student Supports and Resources
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
At RB, MTSS serves as the foundational framework for matching academic and social emotional interventions to student needs.
What is MTSS?
It’s a framework that utilizes data based decision making to identify at risk students and match them with evidence based interventions. It’s a proactive approach to identifying at-risk students with varying levels of need. These needs can include academic, social emotional, or both. Key components of the MTSS framework at RBHS include:
Administering academic (STAR assessment in reading and math) and social emotional screeners (Panorama) 3 times/year, to identify at-risk students and monitor progress
Data meetings with relevant team members, to match student needs with appropriate levels of intervention/support.
Ongoing data collection to monitor student progress and effectiveness of interventions.
Tiers within an MTSS framework
Tier 1: Universal or Primary - Majority of Students (75-90%)
Foundation of the framework that encompasses the entire school with core curriculum and routines i.e., Common Core instruction and standards and executive functioning (EF) routines.
Tier 2: Secondary - Small Groups of Students (10-25%)
Students who do not respond to Tier 1 instruction and supports need some additional support in meeting academic and behavioral expectations. 2 interventions are usually delivered to small groups of students e.g., students in reading/ext. Alg, anxiety groups (SEL), Check in/Check out (EF)
Tier 3: Tertiary - Individual Students (<10%)
Subset of students with significant challenges that do not respond to Tier 1 or Tier 2 supports. These students typically need individualized supports (e.g., 1:1 pull out support for reading/math, 1:1 meetings with social workers/counselors/school psychologists).
